Effective antibiotics are essential for modern medicine that are under threat due to the development of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). Newtherapeutic and diagnostic innovation in antibiotic stewardship is needed to fight AMR and keep treatments effective. However, the current pipeline of these innovations is not sufficient to meet this urgent need.

INCATE (INCubator for Antibacterial Therapies in Europe) is a unique, not-for-profit public–private partnership bringing together leading academic institutions, industry partners, experienced entrepreneurs and investors. Its mission is to support the developmentof novel antibacterial therapies and preventative interventions, by supporting early-stage innovators in the field of AMR.

By bridging the gap between research and commercialization, INCATE is catalyzing the next generation of antimicrobial therapies and preventatives, ensuring a robust and sustainable response to the global threat of AMR.

In this HealthTech Lecture INCATE will present its approach and discuss topics such as:

  • Chances and risks of publicly funded research institutions and SME
  • Development of new antibiotics and possible support by incubators
  • The role of incubators for development and marketability of AMR diagnostics innovations
  • Necessary political frameworks
  • Pull incentives to combat AMR
  • Structural hurdles in the German healthcare system
