Newly discovered antibiotic substances rarely have acceptable properties as therapeutics. Frequently, optimizations are required with regard to potency, tolerability or certain substance properties, which can be achieved by chemical modifications of the molecule.

We use various chemo-informatic tools for the development of optimization strategies. We carry out chemical-synthetic work in our own laboratory. For the characterization of new pure substances, various tests are available at the Leibniz-HKI and within our partner network.
