Long Night of Sciences

Location

Leibniz-HKI

They are already waiting for you in reaction vessels, in the nitrogen bath and under the microscope: microbes in a wide variety of forms, whether long and filamentous or short and spherical. Here at the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology - Hans Knöll Institute, you can immerse yourself in the exciting world of microorganisms. You will get to know a wide variety of microbes such as fungi and bacteria and learn how to find these tiny creatures - and what they are capable of. We will show you that microorganisms can be found everywhere, even in our bodies. Sometimes they cause diseases, but as producers of natural products such as antibiotics, they are also very important for medicine.

The scientists at the Leibniz-HKI are opening the doors of their labs for you. Come in and take a look with us at a fascinating world that is so close and yet seems so far away! In exciting experiments and short guided tours through the individual research groups, you will learn more about our research into fungi as pathogens and how we find new antibiotics. You can see that microorganisms are living chemical factories, how cells and genes are examined, how our immune system can successfully fend off intruders and what secrets can be elicited from samples that are thousands of years old.

We look forward to your visit to the Leibniz-HKI!
