Stefanie Allert wins DGHM-Award

| by Steffi Feller

At the status workshop held in Innsbruck in February, our postdoc Stefanie Allert received an award from the DGHM section "Eukaryotic pathogens" for her work on the virulence of Candida albicans!

This is already the third award for the publication, after it also received the audience award of the DMykG Foundation and was named publication of the month by the German Society for Hygiene and Macrobiology (DGHM) in July 2018.

Allert S*, Förster TM* (first authors), Svensson CM, Richardson JP, Pawlik T, Hebecker B, Rudolphi S, Juraschitz M*, Schaller M, Blagojevic M, Morschhäuser J, Figge MT, Jacobsen ID, Naglik JR, Kasper L*, Mogavero S*, Hube B* (2018) Candida albicans-induced epithelial damage mediates translocation through intestinal barriers. mBio 9(3), e00915-18. This publication is the first detailed study of C. albicans translocation across the intestinal epithelial barrier. It is shown that fungal translocation is associated with hyphae formation and necrotic epithelial damage, depending on the recently identified peptide toxin Candidalysin.

Congratulations Steffi!
