MSCA Doctoral Network MiCCrobioTAckle
MiCCrobioTAckle – Advancing Research at the Intersection Between Gut Microbiota and Cancer Cachexia to Train Europe’s Future Leaders in Microbiota Medicine – is a European research network led by Gianni Panagiotou that investigates the influence of the gut microbiome on the development and progression of tumor cachexia – a life-threatening side effect of many cancers. The aim is to identify microbial biomarkers and therapeutic targets in order to detect cachexia earlier and treat it more effectively. At the same time, the network trains doctoral researchers from all over Europe, who, in close cooperation with academic and industrial partners, become interdisciplinary experts in this forward-looking field of research. The Leibniz-HKI contributes its microbiological and bioinformatic expertise to the project and, among other things, leads the work on characterizing microbial metabolites.
This project is funded by the European Research Executive Agency (HORIZON-MSCA-2023-DN-01).
