The Executive Board of the Center for Innovation Competence Septomics (ZIK Septomics) has unanimously elected Prof. Dr. Oliver Kurzai as new speaker. Kurzai succeeds Prof. Dr. Konrad Reinhart of the University Hospital Jena who had led the center since its establishment five years ago.
The ZIK Septomics was founded in 2009 as an interfaculty research institution supported by the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, the University Hospital Jena and the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology - Hans Knöll Institute. Two research groups funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research are studying the mechanisms of sepsis. The labs of Prof. Kurzai and Prof. Dr. Hortense Slevogt are closely collaborating with the clinical research group of Prof. Dr. Frank Brunkhorst.
