| by Michael Ramm

A new causal agent of fungal infections – Candida auris – is making headlines around the world. German and Austrian experts now call for increased vigilance. The scientists have compiled a statement, which they present to the public on September 6th, 2017. They recommend therein increased attention and the medical personnel to be informed adequately about the new yeast fungus. At the same time they warn against unnecessary panic.

The National Reference Center for Invasive Fungal Infections at the HKI (Jena) has contributed to the statement. Further partners are the Robert Koch Institute (Berlin), the ECMM Excellence Center at the University Hospital of Cologne, the National Reference Center for Aspergillus and Aspergillus Infections (Innsbruck) and the National Reference Center for Yeast and Mold Fungus Infections (Vienna).
