[Podcast only available in German language]

In the latest podcast episode, Wirkstoffradio host Bernd Rupp talks with Hajo Kries about the design of natural products. The two talk about protein synthesis in microorganisms and how this can be changed to produce new natural products. Hajo's main focus here is on nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPS), which he wants to use to produce previously unknown peptides that can be used as active compounds. In doing so, he changes the genetic code of the NRPS with the help of directed evolution until the peptide he has selected is produced.
