Animal experiments in research

Information event by scientists from Jena on April 24, 2018

Versuchsmaus auf einer Hand

From today's perspective, animal experiments are indispensable in biomedical research. Complex processes in the living organism can only be recorded and understood with the help of laboratory animals. The knowledge gained from animal experiments is an important basis for the development of new drugs and therapies.

In addition to the ethical consideration of animal experiments, it is always examined whether the result of an animal experiment can be achieved by alternative methods. If, however, animal experiments are indispensable in the absence of alternatives, they are carried out in such a way that the burden on the animals is justified by the expected benefit or knowledge gain.

On April 24, 2018, at 5:00 pm, at the Rosensäle of FSU Jena, scientists from research institutions in Jena will hold an information event why and how experiments with animals are carried out and how they are researching ways to reduce or replace the experiments.

The event will be held in German.
