Phagosome-targeting anti-infectives

The ability of fungal pathogens to manipulate phagosome maturation and redirect phagosomes from the degradative to the non-degradative pathway represents an important virulence trait. The increased knowledge of phagocytosis of fungal pathogens not only provides valuable insights into the biogenesis of phagosomes, fungal and bacterial infections, and immune evasion strategies but also offers the potential for the development of innovative strategies, that allow for the specific targeting of pathogens residing in phagosomes or the retention of phagosomes in the degradative pathway.
