Honour for excellent PhD thesis
Dissertation Award of the Leibniz Association for Tom Bretschneider
| by Christine Vogler
Tom Bretschneider, former PhD student in the department Biomolecular Chemistry, receives the dissertation award of the Leibniz Association. In his PhD thesis, Tom Bretschneider investigated the biosynthesis of the natural product rhizoxin, discovering a completely new mechanism of branching in natural products. These results were published in renowned journals such as Nature and Nature Chemical Biology. In spring 2014, Tom Bretschneider was awarded the Science Prize of the Beutenberg Campus.
As early as 1997, the Leibniz Association made it a clear priority to promote young researchers by granting awards for excellent doctoral work. The award is conferred annually; since 2007, in the categories "Humanities and Social Sciences" as well as "Natural Sciences and Engineering". With the award, the Association honours an outstanding doctoral thesis from a Leibniz institution. The Young Scientists Award is valued at 3,000 EUR.
